Cream Wright is an education expert and development practitioner, specialising in the cultivation of innovative solutions for responding to problems and challenges. He brings to REDI4Change a combination of visionary insight, strategic thinking and a pragmatic world view grounded in extensive practical experience in technical areas such as: curriculum  reform; programme evaluation; action research; development policy analysis; technical/vocational education;  education systems reform; teacher education & professional development; education and post-crisis reconstruction; and education policy  to enhance/popularise science & technology in society.

As UNICEF’s Global Chief of Education & Associate Director (Programmes) for almost eight years, Dr. Wright was the face of UNICEF in development and academic circles: leading policy and strategy for the agency’s work at the global, regional and local levels in 158 countries; providing programme guidance and technical support to UNICEF staff and national counterparts in these countries; building international partnerships and playing a leading role in the Education for All (EFA) movement; advocating for critical resources to support UNICEF’s work in education as well as for education in developing countries.

As Special Adviser & Head of Education, Commonwealth Secretariat in London, he provided policy advice on education cooperation to the 54 Commonwealth countries: organising Conferences of Commonwealth Education Ministers (CCEMs); providing technical advice and support to Commonwealth Countries; building partnerships with other international organisations; contributing to the EFA movement; advocating for resources and exchange programmes (scholarships) to support capacity building.

As Managing Director of  an international consultancy firm based in Sierra Leone he evaluated  national curricula in science and maths; conducted research in rural areas on poverty and development; successfully completed  field assignments for international clients in over 30 countries, including work on project identification/preparation/completion missions, and technical areas such as: studies on curriculum reform, training of field officers on basic research skills, education systems reform, education policy for popularising science & technology in society. During this period he was the Proprietor and General Manager of  a bookshop and academic publishing house in Sierra Leone.

As Director of a Teacher Education Research Centre in Sierra Leone, Dr. Wright secured external funding for innovative research in Sierra Leone; pioneered Collaborative Action Research in Education (CARE) to involve teachers in problem-solving research; built partnerships with research groups across West Africa, resulting in the formation of the Education Research Network of West and Central Africa (ERNWACA)

Dr. Wright has been a Visiting Lecturer, Department of International & Comparative Education, University of London; Principal Lecturer at Milton Margai Teachers College (University of Sierra Leone); Part Time Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Sierra Leone; and a frequent invited speaker at universities such as Harvard, Columbia and Stanford in the United States, and York, Oxford, Edinburgh and London in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Wright earned his PhD in Theory and Practice of Education Innovations in Development from the University of London Institute of Education, U.K.; an  M. Phil. in Epistemology – Knowledge and Culture for Cross-Cultural Curriculum in Education and Development from the University of Aston in Birmingham, U.K.;an M.A. in Education (with Distinction) in Educational Planning and Development in Developing Countries from the University of London Institute of Education, U.K.; a B.Sc. Combined Honours (First Class) – Education and Engineering from the University of Aston in Birmingham, U.K.; and a Dip. Eng. – Civil Engineering from the University of Sierra Leone.
